Make Delicious Sweet Sesame Loaf At Home

INGREDIENTS:
MAKES 1 OR 2 LOAVES
- 75g/3oz/6 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 275g/10oz/2½ cups plain (all-purpose) flour
- 5ml/1 tsp salt
- 12.5ml/2½ tsp baking powder
- 50g/2oz/¼ cup butter or margarine, at room temperature
- 130g/4½oz/scant ¾ cup sugar
- 2 eggs, at room temperature
- grated rind of 1 lemon
- 350ml/12fl oz/1½ cups milk
STEPS:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/ Gas 4. Line a 23 x 13cm/9 x 5in loaf tin (pan) with baking parchment and grease.
- Reserve 30ml/2 tablespoon of the sesame seeds. Spread the remainder on a baking sheet and bake until lightly toasted, about 10 minutes.
- Sift the flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl.
- Stir in the toasted sesame seeds and set aside.
- With an electric mixer, cream the butter or margarine and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, then stir in the lemon rind and milk.
- Pour the milk mixture over the dry ingredients and fold in with a large metal spoon until just blended.
- Pour into the tin and sprinkle over the reserved sesame seeds.
- Bake until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean, about 1 hour. Leave to cool in the tin for about 10 minutes. Turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
